A forgetful season for foreign spinners.

Delhi Capitals, a team which possessed immense amount of talent right from the beginning of this IPL season, lacked in a few departments which could’ve been easily sorted.

Tough luck started for DC during the initial start of the tournament when their go to leggie veteran Amit Mishra got injured. A certain amount of pressure of delivering performance came on to another super experienced Ravi Ashwin. Delhi seemed really stable line up amongst all the 8 teams and were literally unmatchable in the initial stage, but what they lacked was another helping hand to Ashwin which could’ve created pressure for the oppositions from the other end. It was really unfortunate to see the Nepal born cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane didn’t even get a single match to showcase his skills in such a big league.

Although, the young lad must have fancied his chances after his fellow leggie got injured. But the team management was quite unfair to him this season, for not giving him a single match to justify his worth.

DC lacked 2nd spinner in the tournament:

It would be unfair to say that Axar Patel did not justified his spot in playing 11, after all he managed to bag a man of the match award too in the league. But what he genuinely lacked was his wicket taking ability and providing breakthrough in the mid when needed. It came to me as a shock when a rookie like Praveen Dubey got the opportunity ahead of Lamichhane in the latter stage of the tournament. In the 3 matches in which Dubey appeared, he went wicketless in all those 3 matches. It’s not about degrading a particular player, but backing the right person at right time could’ve helped DC a lot. Everyone is well aware of the fact that Lamichhane has international experience and represents Nepal on a high level. And the amount of experience he brings is simply amazing and selecting for the finals could’ve been a turning point for them.

A forgetful season for foreign spinners:

It would be fair enough to say that this season was not a fruitful one for few players who were not given enough opportunities to showcase their talent on a big stage. Where experienced players like Dwayne Bravo, Amit Mishra, Mitchell Marsh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma got injured without leaving any lasting impact for their respective teams, international spin sensations like Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Imran Tahir, Adam Zampa, Mohammed Nabi, and Mitchell Santner were not given enough opportunities to showcase the talent which they possess, or I would say the team managements were a little harsh to these players.
